Cabo Fishing Report – Dorado and Skipjack – Two Dorado and One Skipjack

32 Foot Luhrs – Captain Jorge

Two dorado and a powerful skipjack delivered a lively six-hour Cabo fishing experience for Jennifer, Bryan, Erik and Julie on August 5, 2023. Visiting from the Tacoma, Washington area, the group joined Captain Jorge aboard the 32 Foot Luhrs and headed into warm Pacific water during one of the most productive periods of the summer fishing season. With three hard-fighting fish making it to the boat, this charter became a great example of how a shorter offshore trip can still generate varied action when the captain locates productive water.

Conditions around Cabo San Lucas were unmistakably tropical. The morning temperature was approximately 82°F before the daytime high reached roughly 93°F. Winds averaged around 14 mph, while Pacific water temperatures were approximately 86°F. The moon was moving through its waning gibbous phase following the August 1 full moon, adding another environmental element to the offshore conditions.

Captain Jorge’s challenge was not simply to run offshore and troll. Successful Cabo fishing charters depend on interpreting constantly changing clues across the Pacific. Current boundaries, concentrations of baitfish, working birds, floating debris and subtle shifts in water color can reveal where predatory fish are actively feeding.

The August 5 results included:

  • 2 dorado
  • 1 skipjack
  • 6-hour charter
  • 32 Foot Luhrs
  • Captain Jorge
  • Water temperature: approximately 86°F

The two dorado provided the visual highlight. Few offshore game fish can match their combination of speed, spectacular coloration and aerial ability. A hooked dorado may surge away from the boat before suddenly changing direction and launching above the surface. Brilliant flashes of green, blue and yellow make the battle even more memorable when the fish finally appears beside the boat.

Skipjack bring a completely different personality to the fight. Built for speed and endurance, they can pull remarkably hard for their size. The group’s skipjack added variety to the charter and provided another strong test of the tackle.

Producing three fish during a six-hour trip also illustrates the importance of maximizing fishing time. Captain Jorge could evaluate the conditions, establish a productive trolling pattern and remain ready to adjust as signs of activity appeared.

For Blue Sky Cabo Fishing Charter and Tours, that flexibility is an important part of every private charter. Professional tackle, live and rigged bait, trolling equipment and teaser presentations give crews multiple options instead of forcing anglers to depend on one technique throughout the morning.

The 32 Foot Luhrs is particularly well suited to smaller groups seeking a private and fishing-focused Cabo experience. Its size allows the captain to maneuver efficiently around developing opportunities while keeping guests close to the action. When a dorado appears behind a lure or a skipjack attacks a presentation, communication between captain, crew and anglers becomes immediate.

August is also a month when warm Pacific conditions can support several offshore species around southern Baja. Dorado, yellowfin tuna, skipjack, wahoo and billfish may all be part of the broader fishing picture, meaning the crew must remain prepared for whatever appears behind the boat.

Jennifer, Bryan, Erik and Julie experienced that diversity firsthand. Their catch was not built around a single species or one isolated hookup. Two dorado delivered the acrobatics and brilliant colors associated with summer Cabo San Lucas fishing, while the skipjack supplied the raw pulling strength that makes light-to-medium offshore tackle so entertaining.

Another advantage of a private charter is the ability to shape the fishing day around the guests. Rather than sharing limited fishing time with unrelated passengers, the group could enjoy the boat together while Captain Jorge concentrated on locating fish and creating opportunities specifically for them.

By the end of six hours, the scoreboard told the story: two dorado, one skipjack and four anglers returning toward the Cabo marina after a productive morning on warm Pacific water.

The catch may look simple on paper, but each fish represents a sequence of decisions—where to search, what presentation to run, when to remain in an area and when to move. That decision-making is where an experienced Cabo fishing captain can make a meaningful difference.

For Jennifer, Bryan, Erik and Julie, August 5 became a successful summer fishing day aboard the 32 Foot Luhrs with Captain Jorge. Three game fish, warm water and six hours of private offshore fishing combined into another memorable Cabo San Lucas fishing charter with Blue Sky Cabo.
