A Family Cabo Fishing Day With Baby Claire

This August 7 charter had a very different character from a typical group fishing trip.

Kaylee and Jason weren’t alone.

Their eight-month-old daughter Claire joined them aboard the Blue Water, turning the day into a family offshore experience while they were staying at Riu Santa Fe in Cabo San Lucas.

Blue Sky Cabo carries life jackets including infant and toddler sizes, an important consideration when families with very young children join a private charter.

With eight hours booked, the family had a complete fishing day available rather than a short introductory trip.

Three Tuna Define the Cabo Fishing Catch

Tuna provided all three fish recorded during the charter.

Tuna fishing offers a noticeably different experience from targeting dorado. These powerful fish can fight deep and use their strength to make anglers work throughout the battle.

Finding tuna often requires crews to pay close attention to bait, birds and other offshore activity. When fish are located, preparation and timing become important because opportunities can develop quickly.

On this August morning, three tuna provided the payoff.

For Kaylee and Jason, the result gave their family fishing day a clear headline: three tuna during eight hours aboard the Blue Water.

Eight Hours Gives Cabo Fishing More Range

An eight-hour charter provides the captain with considerably more flexibility than a four- or five-hour trip.

The Blue Water departed F Dock at 6:00 AM and wasn’t scheduled back until 2:00 PM.

That larger time window allows the crew to search more water, investigate signs of offshore activity and adjust when the early plan doesn’t immediately produce.

Lunches were provided for Kaylee and Jason so the family could remain aboard throughout the full charter.

With a baby joining the trip, having a private boat also gave the family a more personal environment than they would have experienced on a shared fishing excursion.

Tuna Create a Different Cabo Fishing Experience

Tuna are built differently from many other Cabo gamefish.

Their streamlined bodies are designed for sustained speed, and once hooked they can use their strength below the surface rather than spending the fight jumping or remaining visible.

That difference is part of what makes Cabo’s species diversity interesting.

One charter may be dominated by dorado. Another may encounter billfish. On August 7 aboard the Blue Water, tuna became the entire story.

Three fish were enough to give Kaylee and Jason repeated opportunities while Claire experienced her first Cabo fishing adventure before she was even a year old.

A Memorable Family Cabo Fishing Charter

By 2:00 PM, the Blue Water was heading back to F Dock after a full eight-hour day.

The catch was three tuna.

But this particular charter had something beyond the final number.

Kaylee and Jason had brought their eight-month-old daughter along for the experience.

Years later, Claire won’t remember being aboard the Blue Water that morning, but the family will have the story, photographs and memories from a day when the three of them went fishing together in Cabo San Lucas.

For this family from the Edmonton area, August 7 became much more than another fishing report.

It became Claire’s first Cabo fishing day—and it came with three tuna.
