Two anglers departed F Dock aboard the 32′ Blue Star Luhrs at 6:00 AM for a six-hour charter with Captain Jorge. The morning produced a mixed summer catch of three dorado and two skipjack, giving the anglers five fish across two species before returning to Cabo San Lucas at noon.

Cabo Summer Fishing Starts with Dorado

Three dorado accounted for most of the recorded catch.

August brings warm offshore water to the southern Baja Peninsula, creating opportunities for dorado as they travel through areas holding favorable currents and food. They can appear around weed lines, floating material, current changes and concentrations of bait.

For a captain, finding them often means constantly interpreting what is happening around the boat rather than simply running to a predetermined coordinate.

Birds can reveal feeding activity. Floating structure can hold bait. Surface disturbances may indicate predators working nearby. Even subtle changes in water appearance can provide useful clues.

Captain Jorge and the Blue Star crew converted the search into three dorado for the two anglers.

Skipjack Add Variety to Cabo Fishing

The morning wasn’t limited to one species.

Two skipjack joined the catch, bringing the total to five fish.

Skipjack are powerful members of the tuna family and can provide an energetic fight for their size. Their speed makes them enjoyable when hooked on appropriately matched tackle, even though most anglers visiting Cabo are primarily searching for species such as marlin, yellowfin tuna, dorado and wahoo.

Blue Sky Cabo releases skipjack.

Encountering both dorado and skipjack also demonstrated the diversity that can develop during a relatively short six-hour outing.

Six Hours Creates a Balanced Cabo Fishing Charter

A six-hour charter occupies an interesting middle ground.

It gives the crew more searching time than a short morning trip without requiring anglers to commit to a full eight- or ten-hour day.

That additional time can matter because offshore conditions constantly change. Fish that were concentrated in one area yesterday may have moved overnight. Bait can shift with currents, and surface conditions can make one direction more attractive than another.

On August 3, the six-hour window provided enough time for the Blue Star to produce action from two different species.

For only two anglers aboard, five fish also meant both guests had opportunities to participate throughout the morning.

Cabo Fishing Aboard the 32′ Blue Star

The 32′ Blue Star Luhrs provides a private sportfishing platform particularly well suited to smaller groups.

With two anglers aboard this morning, there was ample cockpit space and direct access to the fishing action.

Private charters also allow the captain and crew to concentrate entirely on one group rather than combining unrelated guests aboard the same boat.

The Blue Star departed at 6:00 AM, giving Captain Jorge access to the early morning fishing window and six hours to evaluate the conditions.

By noon, the boat was heading back to F Dock with a five-fish morning recorded.

Mixed-Species Cabo Fishing Keeps the Morning Interesting

Not every successful fishing day needs to produce one headline species in large numbers.

Mixed catches can be equally interesting because anglers don’t always know what will strike next.

On this trip, dorado provided the primary action while skipjack introduced a second style of fight. Both species are capable of fast runs, but their behavior and appearance are distinctly different.

That unpredictability is one of the defining characteristics of offshore fishing around Cabo San Lucas.

The final result for August 3 was three dorado and two skipjack for two anglers during six hours aboard the Blue Star.

Five fish, two species and another productive summer morning from F Dock.
