YouTube Short: Trying to get a Dorado on board!
September 22 delivered an excellent eight-hour fishing day aboard Blue Water, our 35-foot Riviera, as Cody headed offshore with Captain Oscar and the Blue Sky Cabo crew. With a full day available to search changing water conditions, the crew worked the offshore grounds and put Cody into multiple dorado.

Cabo Waters and Fishing Strategy Reward the Search
An eight-hour charter gives Captain Oscar and the crew valuable flexibility when searching for dorado. Rather than committing the entire day to one fishing location, the team can evaluate water conditions, bait concentrations and surface activity while continuing to search for productive areas. Dorado are highly mobile gamefish, and finding them often requires watching the ocean carefully. Weed lines, floating debris, current edges, temperature changes and diving birds can all provide clues that baitfish — and potentially feeding dorado — are nearby.
The Blue Water crew used that search mentality throughout Cody’s charter. A dredge was also incorporated into the fishing program. Dredges create the appearance of a concentrated school of bait behind the boat, adding another attraction element to the trolling spread. When combined with carefully positioned presentations, the system can help bring curious pelagic gamefish closer to the boat.
The offshore search paid off with multiple dorado caught during the charter.
Cabo Dorado Fishing Delivers Exciting Action
Dorado are among the most recognizable gamefish encountered around Cabo San Lucas. Their brilliant colors make them impressive alongside the boat, but their speed, jumps and unpredictable direction changes are what create such memorable fights. A dorado strike can transform the atmosphere aboard the boat immediately. Line begins leaving the reel, unnecessary tackle is cleared from the spread, and the angler settles into the fight. Dorado can make strong runs before suddenly changing direction. They are also known for spectacular jumps, especially when they reach the surface during the fight.
For a solo angler like Cody, encountering multiple dorado during an eight-hour charter provided plenty of hands-on fishing opportunity.
Highlights from the day included:

- Lunch included during the full-day charter
Cabo Offshore Fishing Benefits From Additional Time
One major advantage of an eight-hour charter is flexibility. Dorado and marlin fishing grounds can often be approximately 30 to 45 minutes from Cabo San Lucas Marina, but productive water is constantly changing. Currents move, bait concentrations shift and fish can relocate rapidly. Additional charter time gives the captain greater freedom to respond.
Travel time must also be considered in both directions. A longer run offshore means the boat needs sufficient time to return safely to Cabo San Lucas Marina. An eight-hour charter creates a larger operating window for searching, fishing and adjusting locations throughout the day. More time does not guarantee a particular number of fish. It simply gives the captain and crew additional opportunities to locate productive water and capitalize when fish are found.
On September 22, that flexibility helped produce multiple dorado for Cody.
Cabo Fishing Aboard the Blue Water Riviera
The 35-foot Blue Water Riviera provides a capable offshore platform with the space and equipment needed for a full Cabo fishing day. Captain Oscar’s job involves much more than running to a predetermined fishing location. Offshore fishing requires constant observation and decision-making. Water temperature, current direction, clarity, bait concentrations, bird activity and visible surface signs can all influence where the boat searches next. That ability to adapt becomes particularly valuable when targeting mobile species such as dorado.
For Cody, the combination of an eight-hour charter, Captain Oscar and the Blue Water crew, a dredge presentation and enough time to search changing offshore conditions produced a successful September day with multiple dorado caught.
