Blue Sky Cabo Fishing Charter and Tours
35′ Blue Water Riviera | Captain Oscar | Anglers: JP and Jeff
JP and Jeff stepped aboard the 35′ Blue Water Riviera on the morning of August 26, 2023, for a five-hour private charter with Captain Oscar. The plan recorded for the trip was to look for marlin, but as often happens offshore from Cabo San Lucas, the fish ultimately determine how the day develops.
Blue Water departed at 8:00 AM, giving JP and Jeff a 300-minute fishing window before the scheduled 1:00 PM return. By the end of the morning, one dorado had become the recorded catch.

Cabo Fishing Morning Begins With a Marlin Target
The original booking is useful because it preserves something a simple catch total cannot: JP and Jeff went out intending to fish for marlin.
Captain Oscar therefore began with a target in mind, but offshore fishing requires crews to continually evaluate what is actually happening around them. Current, bait concentrations, birds, surface activity and changing water conditions can all influence the decision to remain in an area or continue searching.
On this morning, the recorded game fish was not a marlin.
It was a dorado.
That change tells more of the story than simply recording “one fish.” A private charter allows the captain and anglers to react to the opportunities that develop rather than ignoring another quality game fish because it was not the original target.
Cabo Weather and Fishing Conditions
Morning Air: ~81°F | 9 AM: ~85°F | Noon: ~87°F
Daily High: ~93°F | Humidity: ~74% | Visibility: ~10 km
9 AM Wind: ~9 mph | Noon Wind: ~13 mph | Change: +4 mph
Precipitation: ~0.3 mm | Pressure: ~1010 mb | Season: Late Summer
Sunrise: ~6:00 AM | Sunset: ~6:42 PM | Moon: ~79% illuminated
Blue Water departed approximately two hours after sunrise. The early part of JP and Jeff’s charter offered the calmer portion of the morning, while both temperature and wind increased as the boat moved toward midday.
Around 9:00 AM, air temperature was approximately 85°F and wind was near 9 mph. By noon, with about one hour remaining in the charter, the temperature was around 87°F and wind had increased to approximately 13 mph.
That progression matters on a five-hour trip. Captain Oscar did not have an unlimited search window, and conditions were becoming less settled as the morning advanced.
Cabo Dorado Becomes the Opportunity
Dorado are one of the species that make Cabo’s offshore fishing unpredictable in a good way.
They can appear around bait, current edges, floating structure or productive patches of offshore water. When a dorado opportunity develops during a trip originally targeting marlin, experienced crews can change tactics quickly enough to capitalize on it.
For JP and Jeff, that opportunity produced the day’s confirmed catch.
Anglers: 2 | Dorado: 1 | Game Fish: 1
Charter: 5 hours | Fishing: 300 minutes | Angler-Hours: 10
Catch/Angler: 0.50 | Catch/Hour: 0.20 | Species: Dorado
One dorado may look like a simple statistic, but the number sits inside a larger fishing day: two anglers, a marlin target, five available hours and weather that became warmer and windier as noon approached.
Cabo Charter Fishing Through Changing Conditions
The final hour is particularly interesting when looking back at the historical conditions.
By noon, Blue Water had already been away from the marina for four hours. Winds were approximately four miles per hour stronger than they had been around 9:00 AM.
Captain Oscar and the crew therefore had to manage not only the search for fish but also the developing surface conditions.
At 1:00 PM, Blue Water returned from its five-hour charter.
JP and Jeff had started the morning targeting marlin. They finished with one dorado recorded aboard the 35′ Riviera.
Cabo Fishing Report Final Snapshot
JP & Jeff | Captain Oscar | 35′ Blue Water Riviera
8:00 AM–1:00 PM | 5 Hours | 300 Fishing Minutes
Marlin Target | 1 Dorado Caught | 1 Game Fish
~85°F at 9 AM | ~87°F at Noon | Warming Conditions
~9 mph Wind at 9 AM | ~13 mph at Noon | Increasing Wind
Historical fishing reports are most useful when they preserve more than a catch count. They show who went fishing, which boat and captain they fished with, what they were targeting and the conditions surrounding the result.
For August 26, 2023, that record belongs to JP and Jeff: five hours with Captain Oscar aboard Blue Water and one dorado completing their Cabo fishing morning.
