August 26 produced two bull dorado for two anglers aboard the 32′ Blue Star Luhrs during a full eight-hour charter from Cabo San Lucas. Conrad’s trip departed at 6:00 AM with marlin as the primary target and a dredge incorporated into the offshore program, but two quality bull dorado ultimately supplied the day’s recorded catch.

The numbers tell much of the story. Two anglers booked eight hours, giving Captain Jorge 480 minutes of charter time and a combined 16 angler-hours aboard Blue Star. The final result was two bull dorado, producing exactly one game fish per angler.
Cabo Fishing Strategy Started With Marlin
Conrad’s booking specifically identified marlin as the target.
That objective made the eight-hour duration particularly useful. A longer charter provides additional time to search offshore water, monitor bait activity, adjust trolling patterns and respond when conditions change.
The crew also had a dredge in the fishing program. Rather than relying on a small surface presentation alone, the dredge creates the visual appearance of a larger concentration of bait behind the boat.
The statistics, however, show why offshore crews cannot become locked into one species.
Marlin Targeted: Yes | Marlin Caught: 0 | Dorado Caught: 2
Planned Species: Marlin | Productive Species: Dorado | Total Game Fish: 2
The target changed, but the opportunity did not disappear.
Cabo Dorado Fishing Delivers Two Bulls
Two bull dorado for two anglers created a clean 1:1 fish-to-angler ratio.
Bull dorado are mature male mahi-mahi, recognized by their pronounced forehead and powerful body. They combine speed, aggressive strikes and strong directional changes with the spectacular coloration that has made dorado one of Cabo’s signature offshore species.
For a two-person charter, landing two bulls gave each angler a direct share of the day’s game-fish total.
Bull Dorado: 2 | Anglers: 2 | Average: 1 per angler
Charter Hours: 8 | Catch Rate: 0.25 fish/hour | Total: 2
Dorado Share: 100% | Marlin Share: 0% | Game Fish Species: 1
Cabo Weather Changed During the Fishing Day
Weather statistics also show how the environment developed.
At approximately 6:00 AM, air temperature was near 81°F with winds around 8 mph. By noon, temperature had risen to approximately 87°F while winds increased toward 13 mph.
That represents roughly a 6°F temperature rise and a 5 mph increase in wind speed during the primary fishing period.
For offshore crews, those changes matter. Increasing wind can alter sea conditions, trolling direction and the comfort of anglers. Temperature, sunlight, current and surface conditions can also affect how crews visually search for birds, bait and productive water.
Blue Star departed close to sunrise, maximizing the morning fishing window.
Cabo Charter Fishing by the Numbers
This was not a high-volume catch day. It was a focused two-angler charter that converted two offshore opportunities into two quality bull dorado.
The statistical profile is straightforward:
2 Anglers | 2 Bull Dorado | 1 Fish Each
8 Hours | 480 Minutes | 16 Combined Angler-Hours
81°F Start | 87°F Midday | +6°F Warming
8 mph Early Wind | 13 mph Noon Wind | +5 mph Increase
