Cabo Fishing Report

September 17, 2023 – 1 Swordfish, 1 Marlin Released

60′ Bertram Blue Sea | Captain Alex | 10 Hours Fished

Lynn, Blake, Ryne and Justin returned from the East Texas area for Day 2 of their two-day fishing program with Blue Sky Cabo Fishing Charter and Tours aboard the 60′ Bertram Blue Sea. After catching 10 tuna on Day 1, the group shifted from volume to exceptional species diversity on Sunday: one swordfish and one marlin during another 10-hour charter with Captain Alex.

The marlin was successfully released, while the swordfish gave the group one of the more unusual offshore catches available around Cabo.

The raw catch count was only two fish, but this was not an ordinary two-fish day.

A swordfish and a marlin on the same charter created an unusual billfish combination.

Ten Hours Expands the Cabo Charter Fishing Opportunity

Lynn’s group deliberately booked two consecutive 10-hour days.

That decision gave Captain Alex substantial time and range to work offshore.

On Saturday, the strategy produced 10 tuna.

Sunday became completely different.

Rather than repeating the previous day’s tuna volume, Blue Sea encountered two of the ocean’s most distinctive predators.

Trip highlights:

  • One swordfish caught.
  • One marlin successfully released.
  • Day 2 of two consecutive 10-hour charters.
  • Two-day total reached 12 fish.

The contrast between the two days demonstrates how quickly offshore fishing can change.

Swordfish Creates a Rare Cabo Sportfishing Catch

The swordfish was the unusual catch of the trip.

Swordfish are immediately recognizable by their elongated bill and powerful body, but anglers encounter them differently from the more commonly targeted striped marlin around Cabo.

Landing one added an entirely different species to the group’s two-day record.

For Lynn, Blake, Ryne and Justin, the swordfish came after a first day dominated by tuna.

That gave the group exceptional diversity across consecutive fishing days.

Marlin Release Strengthens the Cabo Fishing Report

The second major encounter was a marlin.

Captain Alex and the Blue Sea crew managed the fish through the fight and successfully released it.

Blue Sky Cabo is a marlin-release fishing company. Healthy marlin are returned to the water as part of our commitment to conserving Cabo’s internationally important billfish population.

The successful release meant the group could add the marlin encounter to its trip record while watching the fish swim away.

Two Days Build a Diverse Cabo Charter Fishing Record

Looking at the weekend as a whole reveals why consecutive fishing days can be so rewarding.

Day 1: 10 tuna.

Day 2: 1 swordfish and 1 marlin.

That produced 12 fish across three major offshore species.

It also gave the four anglers very different fishing experiences from one day to the next.

Tuna provided repeated power fights on Saturday. Sunday brought the rarity of a swordfish and the classic Cabo experience of fighting and releasing a marlin.

Sixty-Foot Bertram Supports the Cabo Sportfishing Catch

Two consecutive 10-hour days also make comfort aboard important.

Blue Sea’s 60-foot Bertram platform gave the four anglers room to relax between opportunities while Captain Alex continued searching offshore.

Breakfast, lunch and snacks were included along with the open bar, while the dredge remained part of the fishing program.

The group had originally been offered a complimentary Friday float-and-anchor experience but declined it, choosing to focus their time on the two long fishing days.

The fishing rewarded that decision.
