Cabo Fishing Report – 2 Dorado and 2 Skipjack – August 8, 2023

35 Foot Riviera Blue Water – Captain Oscar

Two colorful dorado and two powerful skipjack created a productive five-hour Cabo fishing charter for Lester, Jennifer, Nicholas and Christopher aboard the 35 Foot Riviera Blue Water with Captain Oscar on August 8, 2023. Traveling from the Fort Lauderdale, Florida area, the family departed at 6:00 a.m. and spent the morning exploring the warm Pacific waters surrounding Cabo San Lucas.

August delivered classic tropical fishing conditions. Morning air temperatures were approximately 82°F before climbing toward 93°F later in the day. Pacific water temperatures were around 84°F–85°F, while winds averaged approximately 9 mph. Warm water, summer currents and concentrations of bait created favorable conditions for several pelagic species moving through the region.

The morning produced:

    • 2 dorado
    • 2 skipjack
    • 4 total fish
    • 5-hour private fishing charter
  • 35 Foot Riviera Blue Water
  • Captain Oscar
  • Morning air: approximately 82°F
  • Daytime high: approximately 93°F
  • Water: approximately 84°F–85°F
  • Wind: approximately 9 mph

Captain Oscar approached the five-hour charter with efficiency in mind. Shorter fishing trips reward captains who can quickly recognize promising conditions instead of spending valuable time making unnecessary runs. Current boundaries, changes in water color, concentrations of baitfish, working birds and floating material can all provide important clues.

Once productive water was located, the dorado fishing supplied the visual excitement.

Dorado are among the most recognizable game fish encountered during summer fishing in Cabo. Aggressive strikes can quickly become high-speed runs followed by spectacular leaps across the surface. Their brilliant green, yellow and electric-blue coloration becomes even more dramatic as the fish approaches the boat.

Landing two dorado gave Lester, Jennifer, Nicholas and Christopher the opportunity to experience one of Cabo’s signature warm-water species.

The two skipjack delivered an entirely different fight.

Skipjack rely on sustained power rather than the aerial acrobatics associated with dorado. Their compact bodies and relentless swimming ability allow them to maintain tremendous pressure throughout the battle. For anglers unfamiliar with the species, their strength can be a genuine surprise.

Having both dorado and skipjack on the same charter added welcome variety. Four fish representing two different fighting styles gave the group repeated opportunities during their five-hour morning aboard Blue Water.

Captain Oscar’s ability to adjust his fishing approach was particularly valuable. Offshore conditions are constantly evolving. Bait can move, current lines can shift and an area showing little activity can suddenly become productive when predators begin feeding.

Blue Sky Cabo Fishing Charter and Tours equips its captains and crews with professional rods and reels, live and rigged bait, trolling equipment and proven teaser presentations. Rather than depending exclusively on one technique, crews can modify speed, presentation, location and fishing strategy according to what they observe on the water.

That flexibility helps make Blue Water an effective Cabo fishing charter platform.

The 35 Foot Riviera combines offshore capability with comfortable private space, making it particularly well suited for families and smaller groups. Anglers can remain close to the fishing action while enjoying the additional room and amenities of a Riviera sportfishing boat.

For Lester, Jennifer, Nicholas and Christopher, a private charter also meant the entire fishing experience belonged to their group. Every hookup could be shared among family members without rotating opportunities with unrelated passengers.

August is an exciting period for offshore Cabo San Lucas fishing because warm Pacific water can attract an assortment of pelagic predators. Dorado and skipjack may be encountered alongside yellowfin tuna, wahoo and billfish, giving experienced crews good reason to remain prepared for changing opportunities.

On this particular morning, dorado and skipjack became the story.

The four-fish total may appear straightforward, but each hookup reflected a chain of decisions by Captain Oscar and his crew—where to search, which presentation to deploy, when to remain in an area and when conditions suggested making a move.

By 11:00 a.m., Blue Water was returning toward the Cabo San Lucas Marina with two dorado and two skipjack completing the five-hour trip.

For Lester, Jennifer, Nicholas and Christopher, the morning offered an excellent combination of warm Mexican weather, private family time and genuine offshore sportfishing. The acrobatic dorado delivered spectacular visual battles, while the skipjack tested anglers with sustained strength.

For Blue Sky Cabo Fishing Charter and Tours, the August 8 trip demonstrated why experienced captains, quality boats, professional fishing equipment and adaptable techniques remain important ingredients in a successful private charter.

Captain Oscar turned five hours aboard the 35 Foot Riviera Blue Water into four quality fish, two species and another memorable summer Cabo San Lucas fishing charter for a family visiting from Florida.
