September 19, 2023 – 1 Marlin Released, 3 Dorado – Cabo Fishing Report
A returning Blue Sky Cabo guest, a six-hour private charter, the 43-foot Riviera Blue Sky and a fish-attraction dredge combined for an exciting September morning in Cabo San Lucas. Krista returned to fish with Blue Sky Cabo Fishing Charter and Tours, bringing Pete, Kyle and Crystal for another day on the Pacific.
Captain Luis departed F Dock at IGY Marina at 6:00 AM. By the noon return, the four anglers had recorded one marlin released and three dorado, producing a four-fish, two-species charter with a 100% marlin release rate.

Returning Guest Chooses Cabo Fishing Charter Dredge
One of the most interesting details behind this charter was Krista’s history with Blue Sky Cabo.
She was a repeat guest who had already fished aboard Blue Sky. Her booking notes even mentioned that the fish-attraction dredge hadn’t helped as much as she hoped during her previous trip.
Krista nevertheless chose the dredge again.
A fishing dredge is designed to imitate a concentrated school of bait beneath and behind the yacht. Multiple artificial baitfish or attractors create flash, movement and the appearance of feeding activity. The objective is to attract the attention of offshore predators and bring them into the trolling presentation.
The historical charter record confirms that the dredge was deployed on September 19. It does not document the exact hookup sequence or whether an individual fish was directly raised by the dredge, so those details aren’t being added.
What the record does confirm is a productive result: one marlin and three dorado during six hours of fishing.
Marlin Release Highlights Cabo Sportfishing Catch
The marlin provided the headline encounter.
Marlin are one of the species that transformed Cabo San Lucas into an internationally recognized sportfishing destination. Their combination of size, speed, power and spectacular surface behavior makes catching one an unforgettable experience.
Blue Sky Cabo practices catch and release with marlin.
Krista’s group recorded one marlin, and that fish was released back into the Pacific.
Marlin caught: 1 | Marlin released: 1
That represents a 100% marlin release rate for the charter.
Responsible billfish handling allows guests to experience the excitement of fighting a marlin while supporting the future of Cabo’s recreational billfish fishery.
Three Dorado Add Cabo Fishing Charter Action
The marlin wasn’t the only game fish encountered during the morning.
Three dorado added substantially to the group’s catch.
Dorado, also known as mahi-mahi, are particularly popular among Cabo anglers because they combine aggressive strikes with speed, aerial action and extraordinary coloration.
A dorado approaching the yacht can display brilliant combinations of green, yellow and blue. Their appearance alone makes them memorable, but once hooked they can deliver the kind of fast-paced fight that keeps anglers coming back to Cabo.
Three dorado combined with the released marlin brought the charter total to four fish.
For four guests aboard Blue Sky, the morning provided two very different offshore fishing experiences: the opportunity to fight and release a billfish and the excitement of catching several dorado.
Six-Hour Cabo Fishing Yacht Trip With Captain Luis
The charter ran from 6:00 AM until noon aboard the 43-foot Riviera Blue Sky.
Captain Luis operated the yacht for Krista’s group.
Six-hour charters provide additional fishing time and range compared with shorter introductory trips while still returning guests to Cabo San Lucas around midday.
For this returning group, the format worked well.
They departed early, used the dredge program and recorded four game fish before returning to F Dock.
The original fishing record does not identify the precise fishing grounds, individual lure selection or exact bait presentations used during the charter. Those details are therefore intentionally not invented for this historical report.
The verified fishing results provide the story:
1 Marlin Released | 3 Dorado | 4 Fish Total
Repeat Guests Choose Blue Sky Cabo Fishing
Repeat customers are an important measure of any charter operation.
Krista already knew Blue Sky Cabo and the 43-foot Riviera Blue Sky before booking this trip. Choosing to return meant the group could approach the charter with an understanding of the yacht, service and fishing experience.
She also gave the dredge another opportunity.
Offshore fishing never provides guarantees. Fish move, bait moves, currents change and a technique that produces little action on one charter may become much more productive under different circumstances.
That uncertainty is part of sportfishing.
On September 19, Krista, Pete, Kyle and Crystal experienced a productive morning aboard Blue Sky.
A marlin was caught and released.
Three dorado were added to the day’s record.
Four anglers enjoyed six hours aboard a private Riviera sportfishing yacht.
And a returning Blue Sky Cabo guest added another successful fishing day to her Cabo memories.
