Memorie, Daniel, Erin and Devin, visiting from the Houston, Texas area, headed onto Cabo waters aboard the 32′ Blue Star Luhrs for a six-hour morning charter on August 4, 2023. Fishing with Captain Jorge, the four anglers produced an evenly divided mixed-species catch of two dorado and two skipjack.

Houston Anglers Find Variety in Cabo Fishing
For Memorie, Daniel, Erin and Devin, the morning wasn’t dominated by one species.
Instead, dorado and skipjack divided the action evenly.
That made the charter particularly interesting because the two species fight in noticeably different ways. Dorado are known for rapid changes in direction, aggressive surface runs and occasional jumps. Skipjack rely heavily on speed and sustained pulling power.
The Houston-area group experienced both during the same six-hour trip.
Dorado Bring Color to Cabo Fishing
Two dorado supplied the classic warm-water action aboard the Blue Star.
August is an important period for dorado around Cabo San Lucas. These highly mobile fish can follow concentrations of bait and favorable currents while also appearing around weed lines and floating material.
Finding them involves much more than simply trolling toward a fixed coordinate.
Experienced crews continually observe birds, bait, surface activity, water movement and floating structure. Each clue can influence where the captain searches next.
Once a dorado enters the spread, crews remain alert because other fish can sometimes be traveling nearby.
Two dorado were successfully added to the day’s catch.
Skipjack Change the Cabo Fishing Experience
The other two fish were skipjack.
Skipjack belong to the tuna family and are built for speed. Their compact shape and strength allow them to deliver a surprisingly powerful fight.
Blue Sky Cabo releases skipjack.
For Memorie, Daniel, Erin and Devin, these fish added a second type of offshore encounter to a morning already producing dorado.
Instead of four similar fights, the anglers experienced two distinctly different species.
Four Friends Enjoy a Private Cabo Fishing Charter
A group of four is well suited to the 32′ Blue Star Luhrs.
When a strike develops, everyone can remain close to the fishing action without an overcrowded cockpit. It also gives the crew an opportunity to work directly with each angler.
Four lunches were aboard for the group, providing time to eat and relax between fishing opportunities.
The six-hour format offers another advantage for vacationing anglers. It provides considerably more fishing time than a short excursion without consuming the entire day.
For visitors from Houston, it was enough time to experience genuine Cabo offshore fishing while still leaving part of the afternoon available after returning to the marina.
A Balanced Cabo Fishing Catch
By the end of the charter, the numbers created an unusually symmetrical fishing report.
Two dorado.
Two skipjack.
Four anglers.
Four fish.
The value of the trip, however, wasn’t simply in the numbers. Memorie, Daniel, Erin and Devin experienced two different offshore species while fishing together aboard a private Cabo sportfishing boat.
Every fishing day develops differently. Some produce one dominant species, while others deliver variety.
August 4 aboard the Blue Star belonged firmly in the second category.
The Houston-area group finished its six-hour charter with two dorado and two skipjack, completing another authentic summer fishing experience from F Dock in Cabo San Lucas.
