Cabo Fishing Report

September 14, 2023 – 9 Dorado, 3 Skipjack

35′ Riviera Blue Water | Captain Oscar | 5 Hours Fished

Forrest, Tricia, Cameron and Danielle traveled from the Houston, Texas area for a five-hour morning with Blue Sky Cabo Fishing Charter and Tours aboard the 35′ Riviera Blue Water. The four guests were staying at the Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos, and Captain Oscar turned their relatively short 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM charter into a high-volume morning with nine dorado and three skipjack.

Twelve fish in five hours produced an average of more than two fish per hour and three fish per guest.

The catch rate made this charter stand out.

Captain Oscar had only five hours available, yet Blue Water recorded 12 fish before returning to F Dock.

Nine Dorado Dominate the Cabo Sportfishing Catch

Dorado were responsible for 75% of the total catch.

Once active dorado are located, the pace aboard a sportfishing boat can change quickly. One hookup may be followed by another, and keeping additional fish interested around the boat can create multiple opportunities.

That requires coordination.

Lines need to be managed, anglers positioned and the cockpit kept organized while hooked fish change direction or jump behind the boat.

Captain Oscar and the Blue Water crew converted those opportunities into nine dorado.

All nine were kept.

Trip highlights:

  • Nine dorado caught and kept.
  • Three skipjack caught and released.
  • Twelve total fish for four guests.
  • 2.4 fish per charter hour.

Skipjack Add Power to the Cabo Fishing Report

Three skipjack increased the final count to a dozen fish.

Skipjack bring a different kind of fight than dorado. Their compact bodies produce surprising strength, and they can maintain heavy pressure throughout the battle.

All three skipjack were released.

That gave Forrest’s group a clear final breakdown: nine dorado kept and three skipjack returned to the water.

With four anglers aboard, the mathematical average reached three fish per guest.

Five Hours Produce a Cabo Charter Fishing Standout

The duration makes the result even more notable.

Blue Water left at 6:00 AM and returned at 11:00 AM.

There was no eight- or ten-hour fishing window available to accumulate the catch. Captain Oscar and the crew produced 12 fish inside a five-hour charter.

That works out to approximately one fish every 25 minutes across the entire scheduled trip.

Fishing rarely happens at perfectly regular intervals, of course. There can be quiet stretches followed by bursts of intense action.

But the final numbers demonstrate just how productive this particular September morning became.

Hard Rock Guests Enjoy a Cabo Fishing Charter

Forrest, Tricia, Cameron and Danielle were all staying at the Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos.

A five-hour charter fit particularly well into a resort vacation schedule.

The group could depart at 6:00 AM, experience a serious offshore fishing program and still return to the marina by 11:00 AM with much of the day remaining.

In this case, they didn’t have to sacrifice catch volume for the shorter schedule.

Twelve fish made sure of that.
