Cabo Fishing Report

September 4, 2023 – 1 Marlin Released, 1 Wahoo

43′ Riviera Blue Sky | Captain Luis | 8 Hours Fished

Jahi, Helene, Chantal, Sampriti, Tara, Margaux, Aaron, Ash, Claudia, Kat, Jose and Audrey came primarily from the Atlanta, Georgia area for an eight-hour offshore charter with Blue Sky Cabo Fishing Charter and Tours aboard the 43′ Riviera Blue Sky. With 12 guests aboard, Captain Luis had a full yacht and an unusual 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM fishing window that produced one marlin and one wahoo.

Breakfast was prepared for boarding, with lunch scheduled for later in the afternoon. Unlike many Blue Sky Cabo charters, this trip did not use the dredge.

The later departure created a different fishing rhythm.

Instead of finishing around midday, Blue Sky remained offshore through the afternoon, giving Captain Luis eight hours to locate opportunities for the large group.

Twelve Guests Experience a Cabo Charter Fishing Day

A 12-person fishing party needs space.

The 43′ Riviera gave the group room to spend a full day together while still allowing the crew to operate the cockpit when a fish entered the spread.

That balance became important when the action developed.

One of the advantages of an eight-hour charter is time. Captain Luis could continue searching rather than being forced to turn toward the marina after only a few hours.

The result was quality rather than quantity: two game fish representing two very different offshore species.

Trip highlights:

  • One marlin caught and released.
  • One wahoo landed and kept.
  • Twelve guests shared the 43′ Riviera.
  • Eight hours of fishing without a dredge.

Marlin Creates the Cabo Sportfishing Catch Highlight

The marlin provided the billfish moment of the charter.

Marlin are capable of explosive runs, abrupt changes of direction and spectacular aerial displays. Hooking one can transform the atmosphere aboard a yacht almost instantly.

Captain Luis and the crew managed the encounter through the fight.

The marlin was successfully released.

Blue Sky Cabo is a marlin-release company, and healthy billfish are returned to the water. That conservation practice allows guests to experience Cabo’s signature offshore game fish while helping protect the resource that makes the destination internationally recognized for billfishing.

Fast Wahoo Adds Variety to the Cabo Fishing Report

The second major species could hardly have been more different.

Wahoo are built for speed.

Their streamlined bodies and aggressive strikes make them one of the most exciting pelagic species encountered around Cabo. While a marlin fight can involve jumps and prolonged boat positioning, a wahoo often announces itself with a blistering first run.

This wahoo was landed and kept.

That gave Jahi’s group two distinct experiences: a marlin encounter ending in a successful release and a wahoo added to the day’s catch.

Meals Add Comfort to the Cabo Charter Fishing Experience

The charter’s schedule also made the meal arrangements particularly useful.

With boarding at 9:00 AM, breakfast was prepared for the group as they began the trip. Lunch followed later in the afternoon, allowing the 12 guests to remain comfortable throughout eight hours on Blue Sky.

For a large party, those details matter.

The group could socialize, eat and relax between fishing opportunities while Captain Luis and the crew continued working the offshore grounds.

Blue Sky’s 43-foot platform also provided more room than a smaller fishing boat for a group spending an entire day together.
