September 1, 2023 – 1 Marlin Released – Cabo Fishing Report
60′ Bertram Blue Sea | Captain Alex | 8-Hour Charter
Chase, Erika, Army, Katie, Maddie and Danny, primarily from the Houston, Texas area, joined Blue Sky Cabo Fishing Charter and Tours on September 1, 2023, for an eight-hour private Cabo fishing charter aboard Blue Sea, our 60′ Bertram sportfishing yacht, with Captain Alex leading the offshore program. Departing shortly after sunrise at 6:15 AM, the six-person group spent the day searching Cabo’s warm late-summer waters and finished with one marlin caught and successfully released.
The charter included the Blue Sky Cabo dredge, giving Captain Alex and the crew another tool for attracting offshore game fish into the trolling spread during the eight-hour search.

Cabo Fishing Charter Gives Captain Alex Eight Hours to Search
An eight-hour charter gives a Cabo fishing crew something extremely valuable: time.
Chase’s group left the marina at 6:15 AM, providing Captain Alex and the Blue Sea crew with a full offshore fishing window extending until 2:15 PM.
That additional time creates options.
Marlin are highly mobile predators, and productive offshore water can change from one day to the next. Crews must evaluate current, water color, bait concentrations, bird activity and surface signs while continually deciding whether to remain in an area or continue searching.
Blue Sea’s eight-hour schedule allowed Captain Alex to make those decisions without the pressure of an early return.
For six guests looking for a serious Cabo sportfishing experience, the larger fishing window also provided more time for everyone aboard to participate.
Marlin Fishing Cabo Charter Connects With a Billfish
The defining moment of the charter came when a marlin entered the fishing program.
Marlin are one of the species most closely associated with Cabo San Lucas sportfishing. Their combination of size, speed, aerial displays and power has made Cabo an international billfish destination.
Once the fish committed, the focus shifted immediately from searching to execution.
The crew managed the tackle and worked with the angler through the fight until the marlin was successfully brought under control.
The fish was then released, producing a 100% release result for the day’s billfish catch.
For Blue Sky Cabo, releasing marlin is standard practice and allows these important game fish to return to Cabo’s offshore ecosystem.
Cabo Fishing Yacht Strategy Includes the Dredge
The dredge was an important component of the September 1 fishing setup.
Rather than presenting only individual trolling lures behind Blue Sea, a dredge creates the visual impression of a larger concentration of bait beneath the surface.
That additional underwater activity can help attract curious predators toward the boat and into the trolling spread.
The dredge does not replace the crew’s knowledge or decision-making. It complements it.
Captain Alex still needed to identify promising water, position the 60′ Bertram effectively and continually adjust the fishing program according to what the crew observed offshore.
On this charter, that combination ultimately produced the opportunity everyone was looking for: a marlin bite.
Cabo Charter Fishing Aboard the 60′ Bertram Blue Sea
The 60′ Bertram Blue Sea provided Chase, Erika, Army, Katie, Maddie and Danny with substantial space for their six-person private charter.
For groups of this size, a larger sportfishing yacht offers practical advantages during an eight-hour day.
Guests have room to move around, relax between fishing opportunities and enjoy the offshore experience without crowding the working cockpit.
At the same time, Blue Sea remains a serious fishing platform.
The combination of a Bertram sportfishing hull, professional crew, offshore tackle and dredge system allowed the group to pursue one of Cabo’s signature game fish while enjoying the additional comfort of a 60-foot yacht.
Cabo Fishing Report Shows Why One Fish Can Define a Day
Fishing success is not always measured by filling a catch sheet.
On September 1, the final total was one fish.
But that fish was a marlin.
For many visitors to Cabo San Lucas, catching a marlin is the primary reason for booking an offshore charter. The moment a billfish appears behind the boat can transform an entire day within seconds.
Chase’s group had six guests, eight hours and one significant offshore objective converted into a successful release.
That is a strong fishing result.
A single marlin requires the crew to first locate productive water, attract the fish, generate the bite, successfully manage the fight and then complete a responsible release.
Every step matters.
Cabo Fishing Charter Value Beyond the Catch
Blue Sky Cabo Fishing Charter and Tours focuses on more than the final number written in a fishing log.
The charter experience begins with the boat, captain and crew. It continues through equipment preparation, fishing strategy, guest service and the ability to adjust when offshore conditions change.
On September 1, Captain Alex had eight hours to work with.
The dredge expanded the trolling presentation. The 60′ Bertram provided six guests with a comfortable private platform. The crew remained focused on finding an offshore opportunity.
When that opportunity arrived, they converted it.
The result was one marlin caught and released.
Cabo Report Fishing Experience Ends With a Successful Release
At 2:15 PM, Blue Sea completed its eight-hour charter and returned after another full day on Cabo’s offshore waters.
Chase, Erika, Army, Katie, Maddie and Danny had spent the day aboard one of Blue Sky Cabo’s largest sportfishing yachts and experienced one of the signature moments in Cabo fishing: fighting and releasing a marlin.
For anglers researching Cabo marlin fishing, eight-hour Cabo fishing charters, private Bertram sportfishing yachts or Cabo fishing trips for groups, this September 1 charter demonstrates why catch totals alone never tell the entire story.
Sometimes one fish is enough to define the day.
On September 1, that fish was a marlin—and it returned to the Pacific after a successful release.
