Lester, Jennifer, Nicholas and Christopher, visiting from the South Florida area, departed F Dock on August 8 aboard the 35′ Blue Water Riviera for a five-hour private charter with Captain Oscar. The original plan emphasized inshore fishing for species such as snapper, roosterfish and grouper, but the morning developed differently. The final catch was two dorado and two skipjack.

The Cabo Fishing Plan Changes With the Fish
One of the most important skills in sportfishing is knowing when the original plan should change.
Lester’s group began with an interest in inshore species including snapper, roosterfish and grouper.
Those targets can provide excellent action, but fish don’t follow an itinerary.
Rather than forcing a particular species when other opportunities developed, the morning ultimately produced two dorado and two skipjack.
That flexibility turned the five-hour trip into a two-species fishing day.
Dorado Become Part of the Cabo Fishing Story
Dorado were not the primary species listed when this charter was planned, yet two made it onto the catch record.
That illustrates one of Cabo San Lucas advantages as a fishing destination.
Different fishing environments can exist within relatively accessible distances, and crews can respond when conditions or fish activity suggest another opportunity.
Dorado are fast, colorful gamefish capable of producing exciting surface-oriented battles. Their brilliant colors become particularly noticeable as they approach the boat.
Finding them can involve watching birds, bait concentrations, floating material, weed lines and other offshore clues.
On August 8, two dorado became half of the group’s final catch.
Skipjack Add Power to Cabo Fishing Action
The remaining two fish were skipjack.
Members of the tuna family, skipjack are strong fighters that can surprise anglers with their speed and power.
Blue Sky Cabo releases skipjack.
For Lester, Jennifer, Nicholas and Christopher, the two skipjack created a noticeably different fight from the dorado and gave the group four total catches during their five-hour trip.
The combination also meant the four anglers experienced two species even though neither was among the original inshore targets.
Flexibility Matters During Cabo Fishing Charters
A fishing plan provides direction, but experienced crews also pay attention to what the ocean is showing them.
Conditions, bait movement and fish activity can change the best available opportunity.
That doesn’t mean abandoning a guest’s goals without reason. It means recognizing that fishing is dynamic.
On this morning, Lester’s group went out interested in snapper, roosterfish and grouper.
The actual report ended with dorado and skipjack.
That’s a genuine example of why daily fishing reports can be more useful than generic species calendars. They show what anglers actually encountered on a particular boat and date.
Five Hours Produce Four Cabo Fishing Catches
The Blue Water departed F Dock at 6:00 AM and returned at 11:00 AM.
During those five hours, Lester, Jennifer, Nicholas and Christopher recorded four fish.
Two were dorado.
Two were skipjack.
The planned inshore targets didn’t make the final scorecard, but the morning still delivered action and variety.
For the group from South Florida, August 8 became a good example of adapting to what Cabo waters offered rather than judging the day solely against the original target list.
Fishing plans matter.
So does knowing when the fish have a different plan.
