Five anglers boarded the 32′ Luhrs Blue Star for an early 6:00 AM departure on August 12 and turned a five-hour Cabo charter into a two-species morning. The catch included one marlin, successfully released, and one dorado during a fishing window that ran through 11:00 AM.

The combination of marlin and dorado is a good illustration of what Cabo’s August fishery can offer. Both species thrive in warm offshore conditions, yet they provide completely different experiences once hooked.
Cabo Fishing Charter Finds Variety During a Shorter Trip
A five-hour charter requires a different strategy from an eight-hour day.
There is less time available for long exploratory runs, so finding productive water efficiently becomes particularly important. The early 6:00 AM departure helped Blue Star maximize the cooler morning fishing window.
Five anglers were aboard, including a teenage angler, giving the group a shared offshore experience without committing to a full day on the water.
The first significant element of the catch was the marlin.
Marlin represent the billfish side of Cabo’s summer fishery. Their combination of speed, strength and aerial ability makes even a single encounter capable of becoming the defining moment of a charter.
After the fight, the marlin was successfully released.
Cabo Fish Report Adds Dorado to the Morning
The dorado brought a completely different style of action to Blue Star.
Dorado are fast-moving pelagic fish commonly associated with Cabo’s warmer months. Crews frequently look for current edges, bait concentrations, floating debris, weed lines and bird activity when searching for them.
Once hooked, a dorado may accelerate across the surface and launch repeatedly into the air.
Their color is equally memorable. Bright green, blue and yellow can intensify during the fight before changing rapidly once the fish is aboard.
Catching a dorado on the same morning as a marlin gave the five anglers two distinctly different examples of Cabo’s offshore game fish.
Cabo Charter Fishing Report Reflects Warm August Conditions
August ocean temperatures around Cabo commonly reach the mid-80°F range.
That warm water can support dorado, marlin, tuna, sailfish and other pelagic species around the southern tip of Baja California Sur.
But temperature alone never guarantees a bite.
Captains still need to evaluate current, bait, birds, water color and surface activity. On a five-hour charter, making those decisions efficiently becomes even more important because every hour represents 20% of the available fishing window.
Blue Star had from 6:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
That makes the two-species result particularly useful when evaluating the morning. The group did not need an eight- or ten-hour charter to experience both a billfish encounter and a dorado fight.
Cabo Fishing Charter Delivers Two Different Experiences
For the five anglers aboard Blue Star, August 12 produced variety rather than a high-volume catch.
The marlin delivered the power and spectacle associated with Cabo billfishing before being released back into the Pacific.
The dorado provided the fast, colorful warm-water side of the fishery.
Five lunches were also included for the group, making the morning comfortable despite the relatively compact charter window.
By 11:00 AM, Blue Star was scheduled back at the marina after five hours on the water.
One marlin release and one dorado made the morning a reminder that Cabo fishing reports should not always be judged by sheer numbers. Sometimes two fish from two very different species tell a much better story.
